Love One Another As I Have Loved You

Animator - IVORY COASTOur beloved fraternity is named after Venerable Bro Francois whose real name was Gabriel Rivat. He was born in 1808 at hamlet of Masonnetes. Which was part of the town of La Valla. In the department of Loire in France. This was during the turbulent times of the Napoleonic wars. While still a young boy, his Mother had consecrated him to the Virgin Mary at the shrine of Fourvier and entrust his religious formation to Father Champagnat.
She told Fr Champagnat “You may make him what ever you wish; he belongs to our lady: I have given and consecrated him to her”. Gabriel Rivat made an exceptional progress in the school of Champagnat and at the age of 12, he entered the institute of the little brothers of Mary, which had just been founded by Fr Champagnat.
He went to Marlhes to teach in the primary school there. When he was 17 years old, he was named principal of another school in the Ardeche, in Boulieu. At 19 years he was superior of the Mother house and the founders’ right-hand man. Accepting further responsibilities, he was elected the director general of the institute, as a successor to the founder whose life was slowly coming to an end and finally went to rest on the 6th of June 1840. Brother Francois’ life ambition was to follow the footsteps of Fr Champagnat, especially in his pursuit of sanctity in the Christian education of the youth.
